Simple and Easy Tricks for Learning HTML

Yesterday we talked about HTML Made Easy for Beginners and I hope this post will give you the encouragement to further your knowledge and learn more about HTML.

What is HTML, you ask? It's an abbreviation for Hyper Text Markup Language. Finding simple and easy tricks for learning HTML code is only a click away for the more experienced. I'm not there yet myself but I still find many uses for the source code when visiting another site that has implemented a feature I'm not quite sure how to do for myself when I'm looking for that extra bit of code to implement a certain function. I will share with you what I'm learned and continue to learn as I grow in this new language called HTML. :)

Go to the tool bar at the top of your screen and look for View or Source and click on Page Source or View Source depending on which browser you are using, this will give you the HTML source code for that website in a new window. Compare the site to the source code for the area you are wanting to learn more about and scroll down through the source code until you find it. At first it will seem awkward but after a few times of doing this, you'll get the hang of it and hopefully find what your looking for.

When I first started blogging using the Classic Template, one of the first things I wanted to learn about was where do I put the code in the template for creating links on the sidebar and for the placement of Google AdSense at the top or bottom of a post, then I wanted to know how I could wrap text around Google's Adsense (there's a piece of code at the beginning and end of Google's AdSense JavaScript) I was looking for and I was able to find it using the source code from other sites. I had to do my own research and using this method I was able to find some of my answers to the many questions I had.

Now you can understand why I chose to develop helpful resource blogs for new bloggers using the Classic Template and the New Version of Blogger (formally known as Beta Blogger). I saw a need for new bloggers and wanted to fill that need by creating a helpful resource blog for newbies to find their answers to many of their questions in one location. I now have many of the most frequently asked questions answered on my blogs, take a look at Beta Bloggers Resources Site Map or the labels in the sidebar to navigate around. Another avenue of reference for you will be W3 Schools and study the free HTML Tutorials they offer. Over time you will learn interesting tips and tricks for using HTML.

HTML Made Easy for Beginners

New Bloggers are all anxious to learn the basic HTML tricks as quickly as possible as this is a new language for us. You can and will be overwhelmed at times, however if you take it one step at a time you will gain some in-site on basic HTML.

For starters you don't need any HTML skills to start writing content on your blog if you use the WYSIWYG Editor.

Q. So what is WYSIWYG?

A. "What You See Is What You Get"

Now that's pretty simple for the beginner blogger and that may be all you want or need to do for right now. You will see tabs at the top of the Post Editor using the compose mode, the b = Bold Text, i = italic, world w/link = hypertext link, quotes = a separate block of text within your post.

All you need to do is highlight the text and click on whatever you want your text to be using any of these buttons. Experiment with this and if you don't like what you see, then highlight the text again and click on the same button and it will reverse your action.

Now that you have written some content in your post and used these built-in features you will beable to see all the HTML code you created within your post by clicking on the Edit Html at the top right of the Post Editor. Looks all very confusing to a newbie and it's nice to know this was all done with the ease of using these buttons.

Google AdSense Between Post

I recently received a comment from another blogger, Kim Ayres at Ramblings Of The Bearded One. He wasn't able to locate the code in his template to implement the Google Ads at the Bottom of Posts, however he did come up with a new area and that is to place Google AdSense between posts after the comments. Thanks to Kim for sharing this information with me, I decided to pass it along to you.

It's always fun to experiment with the placement of Google Ads and also a good idea to change things around every once in awhile to change the look of your site and find the best location for your CTR (Click Through Rate).
